Artists Chronicle Article

From the Retrospective section in the Artists Chronicle magazine.

Gallery Nine by Five, one of Fremantle's newest galleries, celebrated its namesake to mark its first year of operation with a 9 x 5 Exhibition. Driving rain and storms did not deter visitors to the exhibition on opening night, who took the opportunity to purchase a lowers priced nine by five inch version of their favourite artist's work.

The exhibition was opened by Jim Cathcart , Director of the Fremantle Arts Centre, who congratulated the Gallery on reaching the milestone of its first year, bemoaning the contrast in location between the Gallery and Fremantle Arts Centre. Jim mentioned Gallery Nine by Five was placed in an envious location just outside the Fremantle Railway Station with a shopfront, while the challenges of Fremantle Arts Centre included a location outside the centre of the city, and the fact that the Gothic building , once an asylum, was originally meant to keep people out.

Participating artists included Bob Booth, Ian De Souza , Carmen Mcfaull , Andrew Carter, Vivienne Peters and Martin Kidd. Gallery Nine by Five is located at 6 Elder Place, Fremantle.
